Enduring pain over 42 km. Or ‘When your legs can’t run anymore, run with your heart.’

L.A. M arathon. As I am walking from my home to the finish line, I took a few images of the surroundings. It was foggy and cool at the beach, about 15 degrees warmer and humid in mid-town where the race began. In other words, hell at the start, perfect running conditions at the finish line.

Compared to marathons in other cities like London, New York, Berlin or Vienna, Los Angeles drew a rather small crowd of spectators. You almost had the feeling that the race would take place the following day, and that today was just a training run on the actual course. But the few people who did turn up were all the more vocal and enthusiastic. And at the final turn toward the finish line a band played their heart out until the last runner safely crossed it.

Vienna City Marathon. As every year, the VCM draws the world’s running elite as the course is known to be really fast. Needless to say, one of the courses’ major attraction is a realistic flirtation with breaking the world record.
‘Run like there’s a hot guy in front of you and a creepy one behind you.’
